Greatest Rivalry in Sports Generates Record Ticket Sales

To those of you who missed the American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees last season, and are looking to make it up this year; it is too late. Both home series against the Yankees (June 19-22 and Sept. 8-10) are sold out. The greatest rivalry in sports has sparked record sales in tickets for the upcoming season.

The Yankees are one of a record ten Fenway sellouts, following a week of mail order sales combined with ticket sales from January 15. Included in the list of ticket sellouts for the Red Sox is the home opener against the Minnesota Twins on April 11, July 8 against the Atlanta Braves, and July 15 versus the Mets.

Tommy Harper In 1999, only the Chicago Cubs had fewer stolen bases than the Boston Red Sox. Despite decent speed from Jose Offerman, Nomar Garciaparra, and the outfield combo of Darren Lewis and Damon Buford, the team managed to steal only 67 bases last year. This is partly due to Jimy Williams’ game plan of not sending runners often. Perhaps things will change in 2000, because the Red Sox have signed Tommy Harper as an outifielder/baserunning coach.
