Hitting While in the minors and at Georgia Tech, Nomar started lifting weights, and soon became a strong shortstop while keeping his quickness. He always seems to get the sweet spot on of the bat on the ball, as he only broke 3 bats during hte 1998 season. He hits the ball to all fields, and hits them hard. He has the ability to hit the ball, even when out of the strikezone, out of the ballpark at any given time.
Baserunning & Defense Garciaparra's style may be unorthodox, but it's what works for him. He at one time during the 1998 season was asked to stop and set before he throws, instead of throwing on the run as he normally does. This caused him trouble, resulting in most of his errors that season. When he went back to his old throw on the run routine, his defense improved. He has speed, but being the power guy on the Red Sox and hitting cleanup many nights, Nomar doesn't get many opportunities to steal.
Overall outlook Many experts and managers have said that if they were to start a team with 1 player, it would be Nomar Garciaparra. Nomar has everything: speed, defense, power, and the ability for average. In an era of players getting involved with drugs and other troubles with the law, Nomar has stayed out of trouble. He is a great team player, and besides that, he is a great baseball player.
