Profile Despite being as great as he is, Pedro Martinez has already been with 3 teams in his 6 year major league career. He now intends to be with the Red Sox however, for quite some time. Pedro was born and still lives in the Dominican Republic. He and his older brother Ramon, who is also currently trying to make it with the Red Sox, played baseball growing up as kids. Pedro and Ramon are very close, and to this day Pedro still says that his brother is better than him. Pedro was not drafted by an MLB team, but signed with the Dodgers and made his first appearance in 1992. He pitched 8 innings in 1992, and started 1. His first full season came in 1993, where he was reunited with his brother Ramon and made 63 appearances in relief for the Dodgers. Pedro had a 10-5 record, 2 saves, and 2.61 ERA, yet was traded to the Montreal Expos on November 19th, 1993 for Delino Deshields. During Pedro's 4 year stay with the Expos, he racked up a 55-33 record, including a 17-8 record in his last year there when he won the Cy Young Award. Pedro also had a 1.90 ERA during his Cy Young year of 1997 with the Expos. Despite Pedro's brilliance with the Expos, the Expos didn't have the money to sign Martinez, and on November 18, 1997, Pedro was traded for right handed farm pitchers Carl Pavano and Tony Armas Jr. In 1998, Martinez's first season with the Sox, Pedro finished 2nd in the AL Cy Young voting. In 1999, Pedro was once again reunited with his brother, Ramon. Pedro will be with the Red Sox for a while now, and it will be our enjoyment to watch him rack up wins.
