Red Sox Baseball.com Rumor Mill Get your Red Sox rumor scoop 12/24/2000 In light of the recent signings of Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez for a combined $412 million, Pedro Martinez has stated that he feels it would be prudent for the Red Sox to renegotiate his contract now rather than later. While Martinez says he will stay true to his current contract and does want to stay in Boston, he is a concerned that the contract he originally signed with the Red Sox that made him the highest paid player in the game, has now dwindled to the 12th highest salary in Major League Baseball. It should be noted that there was not any bitterness in Martinez's words. 12/24/2000 Unsurprisingly, Red Sox general manager Dan Duquette had interest in re-signing Israel Alcantara, but with 27 or 28 players already scheduled to be in spring training, coupled with the signing of Manny Ramirez, Duquette chose not to offer Alcantara a contract. 12/24/2000 The Seattle Mariners still have some interest in Red Sox outfielder Carl Everett, however the Red Sox seem like they are likely to keep the highly-criticized Everett. Unless the major package is proposed to the Sox, the Mariners will stick with Mike Cameron as their centerfielder. 12/24/2000 The Tampa Bay Devil Rays are scanning possibible outfielders for their ball club. One of those outfielders is Red Sox free agent Bernard Gilkey, with Reggie Sanders, Raul Ibanez and Roberto Kelly also being looked at by the Tampa Bay organization. 12/24/2000 After signing pitchers Mike Hampton and Denny Neagle this offseason, the Colorado Rockies are trying to trade former Red Sox pitchers John Wasdin and Brian Rose, among others. The Rockies acquired Wasdin and Rose, along with minor league closer Jeff Taglienti, from the Red Sox around the trading deadline for Mike Lansing and Rolando Arrojo.
