| An Everett Extension
Carl Everett became the second highest paid player on the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, February 12, when he signed a multi-year contract extension with the team. The deal ends speculation about Everett’s future, pending a physical.
Sources close to the Red Sox front office believe that the deal is for 4 years and is worth between $30 and $40 million. The only player paid more on the Red Sox is Pedro Martinez, another player who Dan Duquette traded for, and then signed to a long-term deal.

Was There Ever Any Doubt?
When Carlton Fisk was a child growing up in New Hampshire, he and his friends played home run derby, each pretending to be Red Sox legends Ted Williams and Bobby Doerr.
Now, some 40 years later, Fisk will be joining his childhood heroes, former teammate Carl Yastrzemski and shortstop Joe Cronin in an elite group whose numbers have been retired by the Red Sox. This, after Fisk had finally announced after much speculation that he would wear a Red Sox cap on his Hall of Fame plaque, despite spending the last 13 years of a 22-year career in a Chicago White Sox uniform.
